Avalanche Classes
Snowpit evaluation during the avalanche class

Sawtooth Mountain Guides offers three different avalanche classes during the winter season. The Level I Backcountry Skier and Snowboarder Avalanche Safety Course is a training designed to provide backcountry skiers with practical knowledge of the snow avalanche phenomenon and understanding of techniques used to travel safely in the backcountry. The Avalanche Skills Advancement Workshop is a refresher course for anyone who hasn't taken a Level I within three years, or who is looking for a review before moving on to a Level II course. The Level II Tour Leadership and Avalanche Hazard is a training for aspiring guides, outdoor leaders, or backcountry skiers and climbers seeking comprehensive instruction on leading ski tours in high mountain terrain with avalanche hazard.

All SMG avalanche courses are designed in accordance with guidelines for avalanche trainings as established by the American Avalanche Association.
