2003 Spring/Summer E-News

Springtime can be confusing! The high peaks are still white and beg to be skied, but when the sun shines on the crags, climbing is the activity du jour. SMG has been doing a little bit of both. We wrapped up the winter season at the Williams Peak Yurt with our Ski Mountaineering Course and a photo shoot for Powder Magazine. (Look for the story next winter!) Zac and Reggie Crist and Rob and Rick Greener skied Alaska style off the best lines at the Skier’s Summit and said the terrain around the hut was some of the “sickest” they’d seen.

We kicked off our City of Rocks trips late in late April with a group of enthusiastic women from Idaho Falls. Unfortnuately, it snowed 6 inches the night before and since none of us brought Sorels we rescheduled and spent the morning checking out the crags covered with snow.

Things are shaping up for the summer. We’ve set up the Sawtooth Mountain Guides/Elephant's Perch Mountain Adventure Series that includes several free seminars, equipment give-a-ways, and discounted guiding at the City of Rocks and on the Slabs in the Sawtooths.

Throughout the summer we'll also be conducting Mountaincraft and Rockcraft, our longstanding climbing schools. These programs base from Redfish Lake and are a great way to get into rock climbing, touch up on skills, or learn about leading.

The mainstay of our business is custom guiding, which we’ll be out doing from Mt. Borah to the Elephant's Perch to Warbonnet Peak. Contact us to set up your dream climb, or simply to have us show you around the Sawtooths.

If you haven’t heard, Kirk Bachman, SMG’s founder, CEO, and yurtmeister, struck a deal with longtime guide Erik Leidecker. The two now share ownership of SMG and together will continue an eighteen year tradition of top-notch guiding and unparalleled adventuring in the mountains of Idaho!
