Sawtooth Mountain Guides specializes in extended off-trail trekking trips throughout the Sawtooths. Most excursions originate from Redfish Lake and start out along the Redfish Creek drainage. Towering granite spires flank both sides of the canyon, and the creek bubbles among huge glacial boulders. Don’t forget to consider fishing or rock climbing options. Trekking trips can range from short afternoon wildflower hikes to multi-day backpacking expeditions into the heart of the range. When it comes to trekking in the Sawtooths, the sky is the limit.
Although the fish swimming in any of the Sawtooth range’s high lakes aren’t the biggest you’ll ever catch, the experience will be the most rewarding. We’ve found that the best fishing lies well off the beaten track, at higher elevation lakes not accessible by trail. We catch mostly Cutthroat trout on fly patterns typical of those used in the popular Wood River Drainage near Sun Valley. A day spent hopping between alpine lakes, dining on your own catch cooked in lemon and butter and served on a bed of mountain sorel is tough to beat.
