Course Overview

To train a broad range of Outdoor Recreation participants in the Skills of Companion Rescue. Focus on skills related to responding to your own party or a nearby party in Avalanche Rescue and Response.

Trip Format

Indoor

  • Burial Statistics
  • Overview of Companion Search and Rescue (Search, Stratigic Probing/Shoveling)

Outdoor

  • Beacon overview and proper wear
  • Full functionality Beacon check
  • Flux line explination
  • Demo of beacon/shovel/probe techniques (sample rescue)
  • Break into smaller groups
  • Practice proper use of tools (beacon, shovel, probe)
  • Rescue Scenerio Practice (multiple burials, different situations, repeat scenerios etc)
  • Course End/Feedback
